Discover the importance of a Christian family as a learning centre and the responsibility of parents in raising children. Learn practical ways to create a learning environment in your own family. Pray for wisdom and strength for parents in fulfilling their role. Embrace your role as a parent and raise your children in a way that honours God and equips them for a purposeful life.
Introduction - A Christian Family: A Learning Centre for Life
Can you remember some of the things your parents taught you? From baking to planting vegetables, our parents have been our first teachers. They not only taught us basic skills but also instilled in us kingdom values such as kindness and forgiveness. This is exactly how God planned it - a Christian family is meant to be a learning centre.
Learning and Growing
In families, we learn not only how to walk, talk, and eat but also wisdom, spiritual maturity, and good relationships. Even Jesus, the Son of God, needed a family to help him grow physically, mentally, spiritually, and socially. Mary and Joseph played a vital role in his upbringing, shaping him into the person he was meant to be.
The Responsibility of Parents
Raising children well is the primary responsibility of a Christian family. While others, such as teachers and church members, may play a part, parents bear the ultimate responsibility. It is part of their job description to guide their children towards growth and development in all areas of life.
Prayer for Parents
Let us take a moment to pray for all mothers and fathers, that they may have the wisdom and strength to fulfil their role as parents. Pray that they will do everything in their power to help their children grow strong mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually.
Remember, a Christian family is not just a place of love and support, but also a place of learning and growth. As parents, let us embrace our role and strive to raise our children in a way that honours God and equips them for a purposeful life.
Reflection Question
What are some practical ways you can help create a learning environment within your own family?

Wednesday Mar 13, 2024
Summary
Discover the importance of God's mercy and how we can reflect it through unexpected acts of kindness. Learn how to make a positive impact on the lives of others and bring hope, joy, and comfort to those in need. Reflect on the question of how you can show unexpected kindness today. Embrace God's mercy and be known for your love and compassion.
Introduction
When we think of God, various characteristics come to mind. Some may see him as sovereign, all-knowing, or omnipresent. However, the Bible reveals that God's most important characteristic is his mercy. Far from being angry or judgmental, God is overflowing with love and compassion for us. His mercy is displayed through unexpected acts of kindness.
Understanding Mercy
Mercy is love in action. It goes beyond mere words and extends a helping hand to those in need. Just as God shows us mercy, he calls us to do the same for others. In a world where kindness is often unexpected, our acts of mercy can leave a lasting impact on those around us.
Showing Unexpected Kindness
As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect God's mercy by going the extra mile in showing unexpected kindness. This includes our family, friends, neighbours, co-workers, and anyone else in need. By extending a helping hand, offering a word of encouragement, or simply listening, we can make a difference in someone's life.
Thanking God and Pledging Kindness
Let us take a moment to thank God for his abundant mercy towards us. Despite our shortcomings, his love and compassion never waver. In response, let us pledge to be vessels of his mercy by actively seeking opportunities to show unexpected kindness. By doing so, we can bring hope, joy, and comfort to those who need it most.
By embracing God's mercy and reflecting it through unexpected acts of kindness, we can make a positive impact on the lives of others. Let us be known for our love and compassion, just as our Heavenly Father is known for his mercy towards us.
Reflection Question
How can you intentionally show unexpected kindness to someone today?

Tuesday Mar 12, 2024
Tuesday Mar 12, 2024
Summary
Discover a mother's love and sacrifice and the example set by Jesus. Learn how to sacrificially love and serve others, trusting in God's provision.
Introduction: Living with Integrity: A Mother's Love and Sacrifice
When a mother looks out for the needs of her children, there is always a cost. Growing up, my family didn't have a lot of money, but my Mum always found a way to provide for us. She sacrificed many holidays so that she could afford to send her children to life-changing events like music schools and junior camps. This is a testament to the sacrificial love that mothers have for their children.
Practising Wisdom
Looking after the needs of others always involves some sacrifice. It may require giving up your time, money, energy, or even privacy. However, when we sacrifice our own needs for the sake of others, we are practicing wisdom. In Proverbs 31:10-31, we see the example of a wise and virtuous woman who goes above and beyond to care for her family and community.
Following the Example of Jesus
When we talk about sacrifice, we cannot overlook the ultimate example set by Jesus. He sacrificed everything for us, willingly going to the cross to save us from our sins. His focus was always on our needs, not his own. As followers of Christ, we are called to imitate his selfless love and sacrifice in our own lives.
God's Promise
As we assume responsibility for meeting the needs of others, God promises to meet our own needs. This is all part of his plan. We can trust in God's provision as we sacrificially give to others. It may not always be easy, but we can find comfort in knowing that God sees our sacrifices and rewards them.
By embracing the sacrificial love of a mother and following the example of Jesus, we can make a positive impact on those around us. Let's be prepared to sacrifice for others, trusting in God to provide for our own needs as we meet the needs of others.
Reflection Question
How can you sacrificially love and serve others in your life, following the example of Jesus?

Living up to an Ideal?
Whether you are a mother or not, reading Proverbs 31:10-31 can be daunting. The description of a woman who seems to effortlessly juggle multiple responsibilities can leave us feeling overwhelmed. But let's take a closer look.
A Poetic Picture
These verses are not meant to be taken literally. They are a beautiful poem, a complete picture of what wisdom looks like. It is a culmination of the preceding thirty chapters on the subject. Rather than focusing on specific tasks, it emphasises the importance of character.
Doing with Integrity
Wisdom calls us to do the things we do with integrity. It means being consistent in our actions, whether in public or private. When we handle other people's possessions, money, or even their ministry with honesty and diligence, we show integrity. This builds trust and establishes our character.

Being Honest with God in Times of Suffering

Friday Mar 08, 2024
Summary
Discover the infinite and everlasting love of God. Reflect on God's covenantal love and learn how to respond to it. Find comfort and strength in his unwavering love, and let it transform your perspective and actions. Explore the beauty of God's love and its impact on our daily lives.
Introduction: How Long, O Lord?
How long until my Amazon package arrives? How long is this queue? Are we nearly there yet? We don’t like waiting, do we? This is particularly true when we are facing a time of suffering. Just now some of us are facing health concerns, some experiencing the grief of loss of loved ones, some facing career or finance worries. Many of us will have experienced something in this past twelve months that has made us want to cry out with the psalmist, “How long, O Lord?” (Psalm 6:3b).
Being Honest with God
Why are you waiting to show your love to me, O God? It’s OK to be honest with God. There is no point in pretending to him that everything is fine when it’s not. He knows our heart. We can be honest with him when we’re angry or in despair because he knows us inside out and only wants what’s best for us. Being honest with him gives us the space we need to turn our attention back to him and his love for us.
Turning from Fear to Confidence
That’s what David does in this verse. His thoughts turn from his fear to his confidence in God’s love. The best defence we have against discouragement is to be saturated with the knowledge of God’s love and be filled with his presence.
Conclusion
In times of suffering, it is natural to question and wonder how long our pain will last. However, as believers, we can find solace in being honest with God. He already knows the depths of our hearts and our struggles, so there is no need to pretend that everything is fine. Instead, we can pour out our anger, frustration, and despair before him, knowing that he desires what is best for us.
By being honest with God, we create a space for him to work in our lives. It allows us to shift our focus from our fears and pain to his love and faithfulness. Just as David did in Psalm 6:8-10, we can turn from our cries of "How long, O Lord?" to a place of confidence in God's unwavering love for us.
In the midst of suffering, it is crucial to remember that God's love for us never wavers. By immersing ourselves in the knowledge of his love and seeking his presence, we can find strength and encouragement to endure. Rather than allowing discouragement to overwhelm us, we can find hope in the certainty of God's love. Take a moment to reflect on how you can be more honest with God about your struggles. Remember, being honest with God opens the door for his healing and restoration in your life.
Reflection Question:
How can you be more honest with God about your struggles and turn your attention to his love and presence?

Love with skin on. Discover the significance of love incarnate through Jesus Christ. Understand the value of human existence and find redemption through the Mediator and Redeemer. Reflect on God's love for you and embrace the worth of human life.
Introduction: The Significance of Love Incarnate
If you want to know what love is, then look at Jesus. Jesus is Love with skin on. In John 1:14, we read the powerful and profound words:
So the Word became human and made his home among us.
John 1:14 (NLT)
These words may be familiar to us, but their meaning is extraordinary. They represent the pinnacle of God's love for us, as he becomes one with humanity in the flesh of Jesus Christ.
Identifying with Humanity
Through Jesus Christ, God identifies with us in our human life. He understands our weaknesses and shares in our sufferings. Whatever we may be going through, Jesus Christ has experienced it alongside us. In times of difficulty, Jesus invites us to come to him and find rest (Matthew 11:28-30).
The Value of Human Existence
God's love for us, demonstrated through Jesus Christ, affirms the immense value of human life. If God deemed it worthy to become human, then we must not undervalue ourselves or fail to recognise the worth in those around us. The Word resides within us, and our humanity is forever home for the One who is eternal.
Love With Skin On: The Way to Redemption
By becoming a human being, God provided the only means for true salvation from our sin and fallenness. Jesus Christ opened the way to become our Mediator and Redeemer, reconciling us with God and repairing our relationship with him.
Take a moment to reflect on the depth of God's love, as demonstrated through Jesus Christ. Allow this truth to shape your perspective on yourself and others, and let it inspire you to embrace the value of human life.
Reflection Question
How does the knowledge that God became human in Jesus Christ impact your understanding of his love for you and the value of your own existence?

Reflect on the question of how to embrace the 'foolishness' of Jesus and unlock the source of true power and everlasting life. Join us in embracing the 'foolishness' of Jesus and discover the power it holds for your life.
Introduction: The God of Foolishness
When we think of famous people, we often associate their fame with power, influence, or great wealth. Whether it's a politician, a celebrity, or a sports star, they possess something that our society admires and worships. However, the Bible tells us that the Good News of Jesus Christ is often considered foolishness by many.
The Foolishness of Jesus
Both Jews and Greeks had difficulty accepting the Gospel message because it didn't align with their expectations. The Jews anticipated a triumphant Messiah who would establish a powerful kingdom, while the Greeks couldn't comprehend the idea of bodily resurrection. Jesus, as a humble servant who avoided worldly power, seemed like a foolish choice for a saviour.
The Power in God's Foolishness
Although the world may view Jesus' message as foolishness, there is tremendous power in it. Jesus' death on the cross was not the end; he conquered death through his resurrection. This demonstrates his power over death and destruction. By trusting in his "foolishness," we can receive salvation and eternal life.
Embracing God's "Foolishness"
Unlike the pursuit of power, influence, or wealth, Jesus offers entry into his Kingdom to those who approach him in humility and faith. Our good deeds cannot earn his salvation. It is through accepting his "foolishness" that we find true power and everlasting life.
Conclusion
Remember, the world may consider Jesus' message foolish, but in reality, it is the source of true power and eternal life. Let us humbly embrace this "foolishness" and discover the transformative impact it can have in our lives.
Reflection Question
How can you embrace the "foolishness" of Jesus in your own life and experience the power it holds?

Reflect on the message of the cross and allow it to shape your life. Dive into the depth of God's love and His surpassing wisdom that defies human understanding.
Introduction: The Foolishness of the Cross
"He's very intelligent. He just has no common sense." Have you ever heard that said about anyone? Today, we delve into the profound love of God, expressed through the cross of Jesus Christ. At first glance, it may seem illogical for God's love to be revealed through an instrument of torture. However, as the apostle Paul reminds us:
The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18 (NLT)
God's Unconventional Wisdom
Paul continues to explain that God's way of thinking differs from human wisdom. While we may perceive God as wise, his actions often defy our understanding. Human wisdom, though not inherently wrong, falls short in its ability to save us. Only God possesses the power to do so, and he chose to demonstrate it by sacrificing his one and only Son on the cross of Calvary.
The Folly of Human Wisdom
Those who rely solely on human wisdom will ultimately find themselves empty-handed. Despite their vast knowledge and learning, God will reveal their foolishness by accomplishing what their wisdom could never achieve. The cross stands as a testament to the limitations of human understanding and the surpassing wisdom of God.
Conclusion
The foolishness of the cross reveals the depth of God's love for humanity. While human wisdom may fall short, God's wisdom surpasses all understanding. Let us humbly embrace the unconventional wisdom of the cross and allow it to shape our lives. In doing so, we will experience the transformative power of God's love and find true salvation.

In a world that values human intellect and knowledge, how can we embrace the foolishness of the cross and allow God's wisdom to guide our lives?

Friday Mar 01, 2024
Summary
Jesus Christ: God's love made visible. Learn how to know God through Jesus and deepen your understanding of God's love. Reflect on your relationship with Jesus and discover how studying his life and teachings can help you know God better. Seek Jesus to experience the ultimate revelation of God's love and grace.
Introduction: Jesus Christ God's Love Made Visible
No one I know has ever seen God. So how can we know him, if we’ve never seen him? It’s difficult to imagine this in a day and age when we can see people in so many different ways – face-to-face, on television, over the Internet. But for most of human history, important people – like the king or queen, for example – would have been invisible – unseen – by most of the population. How did they know the king or queen actually existed if they’d never seen them?
The Portrait of God
Perhaps one of the most important ways people knew their kings and queens in history, was through portraits. They at least made it possible for people to know a likeness of their ruler. Jesus Christ is God's love made visible. Jesus is God’s portrait. Actually, he’s much more than that. He is the complete expression of God in human form. If you want to know what God looks like, then look at Jesus.
Revealing God to Us
In his gospel, John wrote:
No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.
John 1:18 (NLT)
Jesus reveals God to us. By studying the life and teachings of Jesus, we can come to understand the character and nature of God. Through his actions and words, Jesus shows us what it means to love, to forgive, and to serve others.
Getting to Know Jesus
If we want to know God, we need to get to know Jesus. We can do this by reading about him in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, as well as the rest of the Bible. As we study and meditate on the life of Jesus, we will come to know God more intimately. We will see his love, mercy, and grace shining through Jesus' interactions with people.
Conclusion
Jesus is the ultimate revelation of God to humanity. Through him, we can know and experience the love and grace of our Heavenly Father. Let us continue to seek Jesus and allow his life and teachings to shape our understanding of God's love.
Reflection Question
How has getting to know Jesus helped you to know God better? In what ways can you continue to deepen your understanding of God's love through studying the life and teachings of Jesus?

To know God is to love God. Discover the reasons to embrace God's love and how it can impact your relationship with him. Learn about the significance of God's love, why Jesus died, and how it guarantees us eternal life. Find forgiveness, redemption, and the promise of eternal life through God's unconditional grace and mercy. Reflect on the impact of God's love in your life and deepen your understanding of his love and its importance.
Introduction: To Know God is to Love God
To know God is to love God. Why is this important? In yesterday's episode, we explored three reasons why God's love is significant. Today, we will delve into the final two reasons.
Reasons to Embrace God's Love
In 1 John 4:7-12, we are reminded that God is love. Understanding the importance of God's love is essential for a fulfilling and meaningful relationship with him.
Love is why Jesus died
Human beings, including you and I, often fall short and disappoint God. Sin and evil cannot coexist in God's presence. To address our sins, God, motivated by his boundless love, provided a solution - the birth, life, death, and resurrection of his only Son, Jesus Christ. By placing our trust in him, God's love assures us that we will never bear the penalty for our wrongdoings. Through Christ's sacrifice, we are acquitted and offered the gift of eternal life.
Love is why we receive eternal life
God's love is eternal and unwavering. There is never a moment in our lives when God ceases to love us. For those who choose to accept his love, the book of Revelation paints a beautiful picture of God's eternal love for us:
And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.
Revelation 21:6-7 (NLT)
Conclusion
Understanding the importance of God's love enables us to experience his unconditional grace and mercy. It is through his love that we find forgiveness, redemption, and the promise of eternal life. May we always remember that to know God is to love God.

Introduction: God's Love is Amazing!
The Bible says God is love. God's love is amazing! Why is this important? We’re going to look at five different reasons – three today, and two tomorrow.
Love is Why God Creates
God's love is amazing because you are here on this earth, today, reading or listening to this devotional, because God created you. And God created you so that he could love you. His love motivates him to create. Everything and everyone you see around you is created because of God’s love.
Love is Why God Cares
God's love is amazing because his love is why he reaches out to us. Almost since the beginning of time, human beings – God’s creation – have let him down. You and I both do things every day – we call it sin – that God cannot overlook, condone or excuse. And yet, he chooses, moment by moment, to reach out to us and show us that he cares.
Love Leaves Us Free to Choose
God's love is amazing because his love means he does not compel us to love him back or to follow him. You can never force someone to love you. Neither does God. God wants us willingly, sincerely, and lovingly to respond to him.
Tomorrow, we will explore two more reasons why God's love is amazing. Stay tuned!
